Vincent Van Gogh painted cityscapes during his stay in Antwerp. But he wasn't interested in painting beautiful scenes. He was more attracted to the poor districts of the city. A famous painting from this period is "Houses Seen from the Back." The front view is nicer, but Van Gogh chose to give us a picture of the back. It features poor-looking houses packed together. It's a grim impression, but attractive in a way, with a thin layer of snow on some of the roofs.
