This is what Vasily Ivanovich Surikov did when he painted "The Morning of Streltsy Execution," which became the pinnacle of Russian historical art. The painting is based on the aftermath of the Streltsy revolution, where Peter the Great himself was present during the suppression of the revolution and the execution of the rebels. Here, the artist intentionally placed the famous landmarks "The Basil's Cathedral" and the "Kremlin Wall" closer to box in the Red Square, making the square a narrow, claustrophobic, oppressive space where the suppression and execution are taking place. Looking at the pile of people on the left and the condition they're in, one can almost smell the dirt, the blood, the fear, the anger. It's a realistic portrayal of an unforgettable era in Russian history.
