"The Apotheosis of War" is a painting by Russian war painter Vasily Vereshchagin. The Russian artist was famous for painting battle scenes and their aftermath. Early in his career, he travelled with the Imperial Russian Army. This helped him paint the battle scenes classically and realistically. However, this particular painting was viewed negatively by the Russian government and considered it as an anti-war message. The painting features a pile of skulls outside the walls of an unnamed city in Central Asia. It's a painting that seems to say that this is the cost of war, where there are no victors and losers, just death.
