Raja Ravi varma (1848 - 1906) is famous for his paintings based on Indian mythology & epics. This vibrant painting is a portrait of an unidentified Maharashtrian lady painted by the artist in Bombay. The lady is holding a tray of fruit; she is also wearing a traditional India sari which is red, gold and green in colour. She has a bindi on her forehead which is traditionally worn by women for religious purposes or to indicate that they're married.
