Krishna is a beloved Indian deity and is often depicted in Indian art and literature. The most famous story about Krishna is when he lifted Govardhan hill to protect the people from the fury of the vengeful god of rain and lightning, Indira. Indira is a feared god because if he is not satisfied by the people's worship and sacrifice, he would either give them flood or no rain. According to stories, Indira got very angry with Krishna's opposition that he warned to bring strong rains and flood to the region for seven days and nights. In response, Krishna lifted Govardhan so that people and animal in the region could take shelter. This led to the defeat and surrender of Indira, and made Krishna a beloved and the most worshipped Hindu deity.
