Hailed as one of the most important and original Indian painters, Nainsukh made huge contributions to Indian art. Like his father, Pandit Seu, and older brother, Manaku, Nainsukh was an important practitioner of Pahari-style painting. Among his famous works is the "King Dasharatha Approaches the Sulking Kaikeyi's Chamber," which depicts a particular story in the Ramayana. The painting shows both the interior and outdoor scenes of the story. Aside from the beautifully depicted figures, the painting is noted for its lovely and romantic depiction of the night scene.
