Wheatfield with Crows is often considered as the last painting of Vincent Van Gogh. However, many scholars also believe that it was not his last, but certainly among the last ones he made. This double-square canvas masterpiece captures a dramatic atmosphere, like that of a looming death. Everything here was painted in the signature brushstroke of Van Gogh. There is a sense of isolation and despair in the wheat field, the crows flying above it look like messengers of death, which is further characterized by the dramatic and cloudy sky that looms overhead. The road is sorrowful; it kind of gives one a hint about the journey that the artist was about to trod during the last days of his life.
