Watson and the Shark is one of the famous oil paintings by the American artist, John Singleton Copley. There are two other paintings depicting the same subject; but this one is the most well-known. The subject is based on the shark attack that took place in Havana, Cuba in 1749 where a 14 year old boy, who lost his leg due to the attack, was successfully rescued on the third attempt. This painting juxtaposes the feeling of terror and triumph.
