The Ladies Waldegrave is one of the most recognizable works by Joshua Reynolds. This portrait features 2nd Earl James Waldergrave’s three daughters, Charlotte, Elizabeth and Anna. The painting was commissioned by the mother in hopes of attracting suitors for them since at that time, all three daughters were unmarried. However, when it was exhibited in 1781 at the Royal Academy, it became critical success and so remains up to this day. It is currently displayed at the National Gallery of Scotland.
