Vasily Surikov was so brilliant of portraying human feelings in different forms and situations and he used characters and colours to interpret the emotions of his subjects. This masterpiece he painted exactly happened in the history of Moscow when execution was once a part of their justice system. Those executed in the midst of the throng were kept on the spot for a long time to threaten the whole population that whoever planned to against the governance will be punished.
