August Macke was influenced by French Impressionism when he visited Paris in 1907. However, rather than painting in the style of the Impressionist, he focused mainly on rhythmic colors of German Expressionism. He immersed this style with the visual immediacy common in the Impressionist movement. In Four Girls, Macke captured four girls talking outdoors among the trees. They are portrayed in a flat dimension and ornamental function.
