At some point in his career, Alfred Sisley became fascinated with the modern and state-of-the-art structures built during the 1800s. One of the fascinating structures built was the Bridge at Villeneuve la Garenne, which is a stone and cast-iron suspension bridge that connected the village of Villeneuve la Garenne to Saint-Denis, a Parisian suburb. Sisley painted the bridge in solid, bold colors in contrast with high-keyed colors of the riverbank, the sky and the sunlight on the river.
