Inside the boat are three boys and a man, perhaps their father, as well as their catch. The location depicted in the painting is a sea in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The coarse brushstroke and hasty style make the painting so full of motion and life, perfectly depicting the fishing boat cleaving the waves, bending to the fair wind.
