This tempera on panel painting serves as an altarpiece commissioned by the art patron Palla Strozzi. It combines influences of Gothic, Sienese and Renaissance schools. The subjects in the painting, particularly the three Magi, are depicted in rich decorative style and splendid Renaissance costumes. Exotic animals also add to the character of the painting, contrasting to the elegant and high-fashion portrayals of the main subjects.
