Between 1907 to 1909, George Bellows painted four paintings chronicling the construction of the Pennsylvania Station railroad in New York City. This particular painting, "Blue Morning," is the last and perhaps the most famous. The station was back then a symbol of progress, of the future, of the city's thriving modernity. But in this painting by Bellows, the site is depicted in a kind of lonely tones, especially with the excessive use of blue and the forlorn image of men working.
