King Louis XV kept many mistresses, some of them publicly. Francois Boucher made several portraits of such mistresses, among them the very young Marie-Louise Murphy. This particular Portrait of Marie-Louise Murphy shows her nude on a sofa, lying on her stomach in a rather erotic position. This painting was commissioned by the king himself.
