Adele Bloch-Bauer is an art-loving Viennese lady and an art patron, who also happened to be a very close friend of Gustav Klimt. In fact, Klimt made two portraits of her. Featured here is the second one. In this painting, Adele Bloch-Bauer is placed in the centre as a towering figure, in her opulent dress and set against a jewel-toned background, which is richly decorated, typical of any Klimt work. The composition highlights Adele’s social status as a cultural elite and art patron in Vienna. A lovely tribute by Klimt to a friend and patron.
