Girl in a White Kimono By George Hendrik Breitner - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting On Canvas
Through its title alone, one can guess that "Girl in a White Kimono" is Japanese-inspired. This 1894 painting by George Hendrik Breitner is another example of Japonism, a movement in late 19th century Europe, inspired by the style of Japanese prints, as well as the aesthetics and culture of Japan. This painting features a 16-year old girl, Geesje Kwak, wearing a long, silky kimono, posing rather elegantly but at the same time sensually on rich layers of cushion. The artist had used the same model in his other paintings where she also wore kimonos.
