Joachim Patinir was a Flemish artist famous for being associated with the Northern Renaissance movement. One of his famous paintings is "Charon Crossing the Styx," which is based on the mythological figure and story. But there's nothing hellish and eerie about the painting. The painting is, in fact, picturesque, with a beautiful landscape surrounding the river Styx. The painting dates back to 1515-1524 and was done in the tradition of Northern Renaissance and early Mannerism movements. This masterpiece is currently on display at Museo del Prado in Madrid, Spain.
