April Love By Arthur Hughes - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting On Canvas
April Love was Arthur Hughe's ode to young love, to that fragile, irresistible thing that is young romance. It is a visual reinforcement of Tennyson's love poem, "The Miller's Daughter." But the painting does not depict what is described in the poem, but rather, the theme and feeling that it embodies: the thrill and danger of young love. This painting features a young woman waiting for her lover at an ivy-clad arbour, decorated by rose petals strewn on the floor and lilacs outside the window. Like other Pre-Raphaelite paintings, this artwork has symbolic objects: roses for love, ivy for everlasting life. The ivy is also used as a frame to the whole picture, as in many of Hughes' works.
