It puts more emphasis on naturalness and spontaneity. Monet made this possible by using quick, Impressionistic brushstroke. A bright light shines from behind, casting shadows on the foreground. The heat of the summer sky can also be seen from the slightly distorted sky. It's as though we can feel the wind blowing, hear the grass and wildflowers rustling, and feel the warmness of this lovely summer day in 1871.
