Claude Monet was fond of gardens. Wherever he lived, he planted and arranged gardens, partly because he loved to make them as subjects, such as in this painting: "Monet's Garden at Vetheuil." It features a pathway dappled with sunlight and shadows, on each side are rows of sunflowers and greens. On the pathway stands Monet's son, playing and enjoying the outdoors. In the background are other figures (members of the Monet household) and the house they are renting at the time.
