The Empress of China while Culling Mulberry Leaves c.1773 By Christian Bernhard Rode - Chinese paintings - Handmade oil painting on canvas
Bernhard Rode (25 July 1725 – 28 June 1797) was a Prussian artist who is well known for portraying historical scenes and allegorical works. Here we see Rode's colourful depiction of the Empress of China, on a staircase picking mulberry leaves from a nearby tree. The Emperess is elaborately dressed in a blue gown; her assistants are at hand to help reach into the branches to pick the leaves, hold up her umbrella and to hold the bowl to collect the leaves. In the distance we see other figures tending to their work.
This is an image of the famous artwork. We will hand paint a beautiful reproduction of this masterpiece in the size below.
