This painting, by Shen Zhou, portrays Mount Lu’s imposing hills and waterfalls. At the foot of the mountain we see a literati on the river bank, looking up at the mountain peaks. In the mid section of the painting we see a waterfall and a bridge on stills. The upper section shows a glade amongst dense forest. Shen Zhou has adopted high distant painting method of looking up to the mountain top from the foot of the mountain. This impressive painting is approximately 2 meters in height. It was painted to celebrate his teacher Chen Kuan’s 70 years old birthday. It was an expression of the student’s admiration for his teacher.
