Unconscious of Danger 1865 By Seymour Joseph Guy - American paintings - Handmade oil painting on canvas
Seymour Joseph Guy established a reputation in the United States in the mid-nineteenth century as one of the finest genre painters of children. He probably drew inspiration from his own nine children. The majority of Guy’s genre scenes from 1861 to 1866 feature children playing in a country setting in summertime. 'Unconscious of Danger,' 1865 centers on the interaction between a brother and sister, in which the sister is portrayed in the act of garnering her brother’s attention. The young boy is standing on a rock; his eyes are closed and he is close to the edge. Beneath him is a sharp precipice. The girl who is wearing a red dress and a summer hat stands closely behind the boy. She stretches her hand out towards her brother warning him of the imminent danger.
