Grant Wood is best known for his painting, “American Gothic.” But he did other masterpieces as well, most of which depicted the rural American Midwest. One of these paintings is the 1931 oil painting “Fall Plowing,” which depicts a field in Iowa, the artist’s home state. The painting shows a steel plowshare and a walking plough, which were use by the farmers in the Midwest during this period. It pays homage to the role of new farming technology in the development of farmlands in the region.
