George Bellows completed 'The Morning Snow, Hudson River' in 1910. The painting shows a view of the Hudson River and New Jersey from Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Bellows conveyed the sense of the city waking up through his depiction of the man shoveling snow, a man and boy strolling, people walking to work, boats plying the river, and smoke and steam from industrial equipment interrupting the crisp still morning air. Morning light reflects from the white, freshly fallen snow.
